Hovden sits at 800 metres above sea level at the very top of Setesdal and is southern Norway's main mountain resort. In winter it offers 42 kilometres of alpine slopes, one of the country's best terrain parks, and 170 kilometres of groomed cross-country trails. The snow record is among the most reliable in southern Norway.
In summer the village transforms into a hiking and fishing base, with trails leading up to the surrounding peaks and down to mountain lakes. Hovden Fjellbad has a 25-metre pool and outdoor infinity pool. Despite its altitude, Hovden is only about two and a half hours from Kristiansand by car, making it a realistic weekend destination from the coast.
