Henie Onstad Art Centre sits in Bærum, just 15 minutes from Oslo. It opened in 1968, built around the collection of Sonja Henie, Norway's famous Olympic figure skater turned Hollywood actress. She married shipping magnate Niels Onstad, and together they created this modernist museum.
The building itself is quite striking, perched on a hill overlooking the Oslofjord. Inside you'll find contemporary art and rotating exhibitions. The sculpture park outside is actually more impressive than the indoor collection, in my opinion.
There's a decent café with fjord views, and a small beach below if the weather's good. Parking can be tricky during summer weekends, so arrive early.
