Halten Fishing Village

Halten is a deserted fishing village spread across several small islands at the far northern end of the Froan archipelago off Frøya. First documented in 1548, the settlement lived entirely from the sea until the last permanent residents left in 1988. The core of the village survives intact, including the 29.5-metre stone lighthouse built in 1875, the northernmost in the chain marking the Froan islands. The entire area lies within the Froan nature reserve and is also protected under the Cultural Heritage Act. Summer brings tourists and vacationers who use the old buildings.
