Forollhogna is the gentle giant among Norway's mountain parks. Established in 2001, its 1,060 square kilometres of rolling terrain between Trøndelag and Hedmark have none of the jagged drama of western Norway, but the soft, open landscape holds one of the richest alpine floras in the country.

The rounded mountains rarely exceed 1,300 metres, with Forollhogna summit at 1,332 metres. What they lack in altitude they make up for in biodiversity. The bedrock here is unusually lime-rich, supporting rare plants that cannot survive on the acidic granite found in most Norwegian mountains. Wild reindeer graze the plateaus, and the park is surrounded by active seter summer farms.

The area has deep roots in food culture. The seter dairies around Forollhogna produce traditional mountain cheese and butter that are prized locally. The park is also one of the few places where you can walk for days on open mountain terrain without steep climbs, making it popular with families and anyone who prefers a quieter mountain experience.
