You have probably seen this place before, even if you don't know the name. Flydalsjuvet is one of the most photographed locations in all of Norway. You know the classic image: a person standing on a rock ledge, looking down at the fjord with a cruise ship far below. That photo was taken here.

There are two viewing levels. The upper one gives you a wide panorama over the Geirangerfjord. Below, connected by a walkway, is the lower platform. There you will find the Fjordsetet, a large chair installation that was opened by Queen Sonja in 2003. Have a seat and enjoy the view.

The service building was designed by 3RW Arkitekter and completed in 2006 as part of the National Tourist Routes programme. It was built using centuries-old timber from a local horse stable.

Now, the important part. You will see fences at the edge. Every summer, tourists climb over them to recreate that famous photo on the rock ledge. Please do not be one of them. It is 315 metres straight down. One wrong step and there is no second chance. Local bus drivers, police and authorities are genuinely frustrated that people keep ignoring the barriers. The view from the safe side is just as impressive. No photo is worth your life.

Good to Know

Crowd Tip
