Dokkadeltaet is one of the largest and most important inland wetlands in eastern Norway. The Dokka River delta where it meets Randsfjorden was protected as a nature reserve in 1990 and received Ramsar status in 2002, recognizing its international significance for migratory waterbirds. 219 bird species have been recorded here, including 52 on Norway's red list. During spring and autumn migrations the delta fills with pink-footed geese (hosting nearly 7% of the total population), great crested grebes, cranes and dozens of wader species. Two observation towers give birdwatchers views across the marshes. The Dokkadeltaet National Wetland Centre at Odnes has exhibits on biodiversity in Norwegian wetlands and serves as a starting point for guided walks through the reserve.
