North of Nesflaten, the road climbs through Brattlandsdalen. This valley was once part of the Discovery Route - the historic tourist road from Stavanger through Ryfylke to Hardanger and Bergen, promoted to English travellers from the 1880s.
The landscape becomes steeper and more dramatic. At Flesefossen you will find the largest rest area along the Norwegian Scenic Route Ryfylke. The waterfall drops around 160 metres down the mountainside. A curved steel and wood structure separates the parking from the falls, with seating areas and toilets built into the design.
Just north of here is the new Juvo rest area, opened in late 2024, which connects to a section of historic road running through the old Kvelven tunnel along the mountainside.
