Aurskog Varde is a 285-meter hilltop with a stone cairn in the Aurskog area. The cairn is built from local gneiss, the bedrock that dominates the entire Aurskog-Høland municipality.
Historically, varder served as signal beacons. Fire would be lit on top to warn of enemy invasion or to relay messages across long distances. This network of beacon hills dates back to the Viking Age and was used well into the 1800s.
The summit offers a decent view over the surrounding forest landscape. It is a short, easy hike and a quiet spot that mostly attracts locals.
