Vrådal is a small village in Kviteseid municipality, tucked between lakes and forested hills in the heart of Telemark. It is best known for its ski resort, Vrådal Panorama Skisenter.
The ski centre has 18 slopes across 15 kilometres and 8 lifts. It made a small piece of history in 1997 when it became the first resort in the world to install a Doppelmayr 8-seater chairlift. The slopes are mostly family-friendly, which fits the area: Vrådal is a holiday village, not a destination resort. Most visitors come from the Oslo and Vestfold region.
In summer, Vrådal is a base for fishing and hiking around lake Nisser, one of the larger lakes in Telemark. The village is only about 15 kilometres from Morgedal, where Sondre Norheim invented modern skiing in the 1860s. There is a certain logic to having a ski resort this close to the cradle of the sport.
The economy here runs on tourism: hotels, camping, and the ski centre. Outside of the winter and summer seasons, the village is very quiet.
