Valle: The Heart of Setesdal's Living Traditions

Valle is the cultural centre of Setesdal and one of the places in Norway where traditional crafts, folk music, and costume are most alive. The valley's long isolation preserved practices that disappeared elsewhere: silversmithing, Hardanger fiddle playing, wood carving, and distinctive folk costumes are not museum pieces here but part of ongoing community life. UNESCO has recognised Setesdal's traditions as intangible cultural heritage.
