Tyholttårnet

60 minutes
Tyholttårnet is a 124-metre radio tower in the Tyholt neighbourhood, about 2 kilometres east of the city centre. It was completed in 1985 as a transmitter for the Norwegian state broadcaster.

At 74 metres up there is a revolving restaurant, the only one in Norway. It makes one full rotation per hour, giving a slow 360-degree panorama of the city, the fjord, and the surrounding mountains while you eat. The restaurant is run by the Egon chain, so expect pizzas, burgers, and steaks rather than fine dining. The food is average but the view is not.

Access to the observation deck below the restaurant is free. On a clear day you can see far up and down the Trondheimsfjord.

The tower is not on most tourist lists and sits in a quiet residential area. It is an easy walk or a short bus ride from the centre.
