Trillemarka-Rollagsfjell Primeval Forest

Trillemarka-Rollagsfjell is one of Norway's largest nature reserves, protecting 147 square kilometres of primeval forest between the Sigdal and Numedal valleys. Established in 2008 after years of heated conservation debate, the reserve contains the largest and most valuable natural forest area remaining in central eastern Norway, about 100 kilometres west of Oslo. Very old trees, untouched valleys, and natural forest dynamics support 93 red-listed species, including lesser spotted woodpecker, three-toed woodpecker, Siberian jay, and golden eagle. The forest has all the qualities of the original Norwegian woodland: broken terrain with steep hillsides, rivers, lakes, and a huge diversity of species dependent on undisturbed old-growth habitat.
