The Tresfjordbrua, the Tresfjord Bridge, is 1,290 metres long and crosses the Tresfjorden between Vikebukt and Vestnes. It opened on the 24th of October 2015, and it was a game changer for this part of Norway.
Before the bridge existed, the E136 had to follow the entire shoreline around the fjord. That detour added about 13 kilometres and a good 20 minutes to the drive between Åndalsnes and Ålesund. It was a slow, winding road through small villages. Nice scenery, but not when you were in a hurry.
The bridge is part of a larger project called Eksportvegen, the Export Road. The E136 is the main connection between the port city of Ålesund and eastern Norway, and a lot of freight depends on this route. Improving it has been a priority for decades.
