Hidden in the forests of Hakadal, a cluster of large satellite dishes marks one of Europe's biggest and most northerly teleports. The station was built in 1985 by Telenor and has grown into a major hub for satellite communications, broadcasting TV signals and handling data for customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
The facility changed hands in 2024 when Telenor sold its satellite division. It now operates as Space Norway, a state-owned company that also runs the Arctic Satellite Broadband Mission, providing broadband coverage over the Arctic where no other infrastructure reaches. The dishes are visible from the road, a strange sight among the spruce trees of Hakadal.
