Rockheim

90 minutes
Rockheim is Norway's national museum of popular music, housed in a converted warehouse on the waterfront north of the city centre. The building is easy to spot: a large black box cantilevered out over the old warehouse below.

The exhibition traces Norwegian pop and rock from the 1950s to the present, decade by decade, using sound, video, original instruments, and stage outfits. It is interactive, well designed, and aimed at all ages. You can mix tracks, play instruments, and step into recreated studios. There is also a Hall of Fame for Norwegian music.

Norway has produced more internationally known musicians than most people realise: a-ha, Röyksopp, Kygo, Aurora, and a disproportionate number of Black Metal bands. Rockheim covers all of it without taking itself too seriously.
