Reine

👥 Can be crowded 🅿 Limited parking
Reine was named the most beautiful village in Norway by the weekly magazine Allers in the late 1970s, and the label has stuck. About 300 people live here on roughly a quarter of a square kilometre. The village sits below Reinebringen, whose summit provides the iconic view that appears on countless tourist brochures and book covers.

The red rorbuer, traditional fishing cabins, define the look of the place. Many have been converted into tourist accommodation, which is the main economic activity alongside what remains of the fishing industry. The setting is dramatic: steep mountain walls on three sides and open sea on the fourth.

Reine is a practical stop on the E10. There is a car park at the harbour that also serves as the starting point for the Reinebringen hike. A Tesla Supercharger sits in the car park, sometimes called the most scenic charging station in the world.

The village gets very crowded in summer, particularly when cruise ship passengers arrive. Parking is tight and patience is required. In winter the village is much quieter but equally photogenic, with northern lights frequently visible overhead.
