Nodeland was the admoinistrative centre of the former Songdalen municipality, which merged into Kristiansand in 2020. Today the statin functions mainly as a commuter stop, just nine minutes from Kristiansand by train with eight departures daily in each direction. For travellers heading west, this is where the Sørlandsbanen begins its climb away from the coast and into the interior valleys of Southern Norway.
