Midgard: The Viking Age Brought to Life

90 minutes
Midgard Vikingsenter opened in 2000 right next to the Borre burial mounds, and it does a fine job of translating archaeological finds into something visitors can actually experience. The permanent exhibition covers the Viking Age in Vestfold: the ship burials, the trade networks, the craftsmanship. Outside, a reconstructed mead hall and several smaller buildings give a sense of scale and daily life.

The centre is particularly good for families. Hands-on activities like archery and axe throwing keep children engaged, while the exhibitions have enough depth to hold adult interest. It is part of the Vestfold Museums network and serves as the natural starting point for exploring Borreparken itself.
