Mefjordvær is a fishing village tucked between steep mountains and the open sea on Senja's northwest coast. Old wooden houses cluster around a small harbour. It is one of the stops on the Senja National Tourist Route and has a designed rest area. The detour from the main road is about 8 kilometres each way on a narrow road that winds down to the harbour.
The village has a few rorbuer (fishermen's cabins) available for rent, and in winter it is a base for cod fishing. In summer it is quiet, with views over Mefjorden towards the outer islands. There is no shop, so bring what you need.
