Mefjordvær

🏘️ Town Coastal Senja

Mefjordvær

30 minutes
Mefjordvær is a fishing village tucked between steep mountains and the open sea on Senja's northwest coast. Old wooden houses cluster around a small harbour. The setting is dramatic: mountains drop almost vertically into the fjord on both sides, and the village sits on the only flat ground at the water's edge.

It is one of the stops on the Senja National Tourist Route and has a designed rest area. The detour from the main road is about 8 kilometres each way on a narrow road that winds down to the harbour.

The village has a few rorbuer (fishermen's cabins) available for rent, and in winter it is a base for cod fishing. In summer it is quiet, with views over Mefjorden towards the outer islands. There is no shop, so bring what you need.
