Maurset started as an old mountain farm. Today it's a cabin village and gateway to Hardangervidda.
There's a small ski centre here, Sysendalen Skisenter - just three gentle slopes, perfect for families. However, a dispute between the landowner and Eidfjord municipality over lease terms meant no operation in the 2025/26 season. Check locally whether it's running again.
The 60 km of groomed cross-country tracks should still be maintained. In summer, marked trails head onto the plateau.
