Marilyn Monroe Statue

Open in map
5 minutes
A statue of Marilyn Monroe stands on the waterfront at Indre Kai in Haugesund. It is there because her father, Martin Edward Mortensen, emigrated from this area to America.

Mortensen was born in Haugesund in 1897 and left for the United States as a young man. Whether he was actually Marilyn's biological father is debated; the birth certificate lists him, but Marilyn's mother later claimed someone else was the father. Regardless, the local connection is officially claimed and the statue is here.

The statue is small and easy to miss if you are not looking for it. It is a quick photo stop while walking along the harbour, not a destination in itself.
