Innerdalen is regularly called Norway's most beautiful mountain valley. The claim is subjective but hard to argue with once you are there. The valley stretches 25 km into the Trollheimen landscape conservation area, framed by steep peaks on all sides. The centrepiece is Innerdalstårnet, a 1,452-metre natural spire that rises like a cathedral tower above the valley floor. Europe's cleanest air and water have been measured here.
The walk in from the Nerdalen parking lot takes about an hour on a 3.5 km gravel road with some steep sections. It is suitable for families. At the end of the road, the staffed mountain farm Renndølsetra serves coffee and waffles in summer. Further in, Innerdalshytta offers overnight accommodation. Both are open in summer and on weekends into September.
