Honningsvåg

60 minutes
Honningsvåg is the gateway town to Nordkapp and the administrative centre of Nordkapp municipality, sitting on the southern coast of the island Magerøya. It is a regular Hurtigruten port, and for many passengers, the ship's stop here is their only chance to reach the North Cape cliff 34 kilometres to the north.

Like nearly every town in Finnmark, Honningsvåg was burned to the ground during the German scorched earth retreat of 1944. The only building to survive was the church, which the local population managed to save. The town was rebuilt in the functional post-war style typical of the region.

The Nordkappmuseet documents local fishing history, the WWII destruction, and the reconstruction. The town's small harbour area has a handful of shops, restaurants, and galleries. King crab is a local specialty, served at several restaurants in season.
