Hesten is the neighbouring peak to Segla and gives the best view of it. At 556 metres it is lower and the hike is less technical, making it the better option for people who want the dramatic scenery without the exposed summit ridge of Segla.
The trail also starts from Fjordgård and shares the first section with the Segla trail before branching off. The round trip is about 4 kilometres and takes 2 to 4 hours. The path is steep but there is no scrambling or ridge walking. The view from the top looks straight across to Segla's dramatic north face and out over the fjord and the outer islands.
This is a good alternative if the weather is borderline or if the Segla trail feels too exposed. The same parking situation applies: Fjordgård fills up early in summer.
