The farm at Venstøp, four kilometres north of Skien, is where Henrik Ibsen spent his childhood from age seven to fifteen. It is the only one of Ibsen's homes in Skien that still stands, and the museum here focuses on how those formative years in rural Telemark shaped the playwright's imagination and later work. The main building dates from 1815; outbuildings, a brewhouse, and barn complete the farm. Note: the museum is closed for renovation until 2028.
