Hamnøy

🏘️ Town Coastal Lofoten

Hamnøy

60 minutes
Hamnøy is a tiny fishing village on the E10 between Reine and Sakrisøy. It claims to be the oldest fishing village in Lofoten, and its red rorbuer are among the most photographed buildings in all of Norway.

The view from the bridge is what makes this place famous. Red fishing cabins sit at the water's edge with Festhelltinden rising sharply behind them. The composition of mountain, red wood, and sea has appeared in countless travel publications. At sunrise and sunset the light can be extraordinary. Professional and amateur photographers regularly stop traffic on the bridge to get their shot.

The rorbuer here are run as tourist accommodation. There is not much else in the village. No shops, no restaurant. But as a place to drive through and stop for five minutes, it is hard to beat.
