The Hålogalandsbrua is Norway's second longest suspension bridge after Hardangerbrua. It crosses Rombaken, a branch of the Ofotfjord, with a main span of 1,145 metres and a total length of 1,533 metres. The bridge opened in December 2018 and shortened E6 by 18 kilometres.

Before it was built, traffic had to drive around Rombaken on a winding road. The new connection also made Narvik's local airport redundant; the last flight from Narvik Framnes took off on March 31, 2017, and the city now shares the airport at Evenes with Harstad.
