Gibostad is a small village on the northeast coast of Senja, about 15 kilometres north of Silsand on Fylkesvei 861. It was an old trading post and still has a handful of charming wooden houses around the harbour.
The village hosts a popular local market in August. It is also the last settlement of any size before the road continues north towards Botnhamn and the start of the National Tourist Route.
There is a fast boat connection from nearby Lysnes to Tromsø, taking about 50 minutes. For visitors coming from Tromsø without a car, this is the quickest way onto the island.
