Geographical Centre of Oslo

60 minutes
The geographical centre of Oslo does not lie in the city at all. It is located northeast of Sognsvann, in the middle of the forest, next to the small lake Nordre Blanksjø. This makes sense when you remember that two thirds of Oslo's area is forest, and the city centre is squeezed into the southern corner of the municipality.

The hike starts at Sognsvann, which is the terminus of metro line 5. From there, follow the path to the small lake Svartkulp. At the dam, take the right-hand path. The centre of Oslo is a couple of hundred metres further along. The whole walk takes approximately twenty minutes from the metro station.

There is a small marker at the spot, but do not expect a monument or a grand sign. It is just a quiet place in the forest where you can stand and contemplate the fact that you are technically in the middle of a European capital, surrounded by nothing but trees, water and birdsong.
