Fritzøehus Manor

Fritzøehus in Larvik is Norway's largest privately owned estate, built between 1863 and 1865 for industrialist Michael Treschow. The Renaissance Revival manor, designed by architect Jacob Wilhelm Nordan, contains 75 rooms plus 21 basement rooms and was expanded twice before the turn of the century. Treschow made his fortune from the Fritzøe Jernverk ironworks, sawmills, and vast forest holdings around Larvik. The estate sits in a 6.9-square-kilometre English-style park planted in the 1860s, now a conservation area protecting large beech forests alongside walnut, fir, and spruce. The Treschow family, of Danish noble origin, still owns the property, and the main building is not open to the general public.
