Eidsborg Stave Church

45 minutes
Eidsborg stavkyrkje is one of Norway's 28 remaining stave churches and one of the smallest, with an interior of roughly 40 square metres. It dates to before 1150, making it among the oldest as well.

Unlike many stave churches that are preserved as museums, Eidsborg is still used as a parish church. It was extensively restored between 2005 and 2008. The church sits in a quiet hamlet about 3 kilometres north of Dalen, surrounded by old farm buildings.

Right next to the church is the Vest-Telemark Museum, an open-air collection of more than 30 historic buildings. The oldest is a pagan wooden building from 1167. The museum also has exhibitions on Vest-Telemark folk art, including rosemaling and one of Norway's finest knife collections. There is a museum cafe on site.
