Blefjell is a broad mountain massif between Kongsberg, Notodden, and Numedal, straddling the old border between Buskerud and Telemark. It is not one peak but a whole plateau of open terrain, gentle summits, lakes, and long connecting routes. The highest point is Store Ble at 1,376 metres.

This is a popular hiking area for Norwegians, especially people from Kongsberg and the surrounding municipalities. Foreign tourists rarely come here. The terrain is open and exposed, with wide plateaus and long sightlines but very little shelter. In wind or fog, it can feel serious despite the moderate altitude. Snow often stays well into June on the higher sections.

The hike to Store Ble and back is about 15 kilometres with 700 metres of elevation gain. The challenge is distance and exposure rather than technical difficulty. There are several DNT huts on the plateau, including Sigridsbu at 1,175 metres on the southern end, which makes a good base for longer traverses.

If you are staying in the Kongsberg or Notodden area and want a proper mountain day without the crowds of better-known peaks, Blefjell delivers.
