Akvariet - Bergen Aquarium

90 minutes
Bergen Aquarium sits at the northern tip of the Nordnes peninsula, a 15-minute walk from Bryggen. When it opened in 1960, it was the largest and most modern aquarium in Northern Europe.

The aquarium has over 60 tanks with around 300 species, indoor exhibits with fish and marine invertebrates, and outdoor ponds with seals and penguins. There is also a tropical section with reptiles and monkeys. In recent years parts of the exhibition have been modernised, but the building itself is limited in size. Do not expect the overwhelming large tanks and walk-through tunnels you may know from bigger aquariums elsewhere.

If you are travelling with children, it is a good stop. The penguin and seal feedings are popular, and the location on the waterfront is nice. If you are on a road trip and heading to Ã…lesund, the aquarium there is better and bigger, so you might want to save your aquarium visit for that one instead.
